What's in a Name? The Story Behind "Connecting for Good"

Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I choose a Word of the Year. Ironically, the word I chose for 2020 was connection.

Connection… three months before I started isolating in my home, four months before my job ended via Zoom, and six months before I found out my mom’s cancer was getting worse, and I couldn’t be there for her.

Connection.

I thought about that word incessantly in 2020 and 2021. I thought about what connection really means during mind-numbing virtual meet-ups and interminable conference calls. I thought of it as terms like languishing, The Great Resignation and quiet quitting became commonplace. But most of all, I thought about it as the world opened up, yet most of us felt more disconnected than ever - especially at work.

How can we help our teams feel like teams again? I don’t think it is just happy hours or ropes courses (although I love both of those things). I believe it is sharing experiences that allow us to rally around something bigger than ourselves.

I challenge you to give it a try. Think of it as an experiment. September is National Literacy Month. Why not launch a book drive for your local library or Book Bank or sign up your company to participate in a program like Adopt a Class at a local school?

Done right, these meaningful experiences are both good for your community and create connections among your team members that last for good... Connecting for Good. Interested in getting started? I'm here to help.
